. I like my bottom arm at take-off...but it never straightens out at any point.
6P, I realize that I already commented on your 15-0 jump last week ... on the vid from a different angle ... but I'm going to comment again from this fresh angle.
Your posture is poor on takeoff (not leaning forward enough). This leads to leaning back way too early in your swing. Then, your swing is more of a "LIFT the trail leg up" ... instead of a full, long, sweeping trail leg. You get into that "dreaded flat-back" position. I may have said in my previous post about this jump that it's improving ... but you still have a long ways to go. In one frame, it even looked more like the "dreaded V" than the "dreaded flat-back". I know you can do better!
All these faults are interconnected ... to the point that you shouldn't worry about how to resolve the flat-back ... it's too late by then! I know that you know that! Instead, get a cleaner takeoff with better posture, then sweep the trail leg thru. Re your bottom arm, it's not straightening out becuz you're not "dropping your shoulders" down as your hips swing up. So you're never in a position where both arms SHOULD be straight. How to fix that? From fixing the takeoff ... or before.
It's a little weird that you're asking us what you're doing with your bottom arm. As you know from many other threads, it's really hard to tell. The one that knows best is the vaulter ... what is the VAULTER'S INTENT? You should be able to answer that! Having said that, it's a little bit academic ... since your takeoff is off. Maybe if your had a better forward-leaning (or at least not backward leaning) posture on takeoff, then your question would be a little more relevant. But as it is ... the way I see it ... you're already starting to "muscle up" from a bad takeoff and lack of full, sweeping downswing. So to analyze it much further than that isn't all that important.
I hope you're not starting to think that your run, plant, and takeoff are "near-perfect" ... and you can now start working on the rest of your vault.

You can make a lot of basic mistakes and still vault 15-0. Even 16-5 ... especially if you're reasonably athletic ... which you are! Continue to focus on root-causes!
