Two former pole vaulters stayed after their high school alma maters' track and field meet and had a friendly competition of their own after everyone was gone in 2002. In 1988 Tom Parker pole vaulted 17' for Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California. Jesse Stern still holds the Indoor pole vault record for Yale at 16' 10.75" from 1997.
The high school pole vaulters did not pole vault very high that day. Disgusted the two former pole vaulters decided to entertain themselves and pole vault. It was quite a show. Needless to say they pole vaulted much higher than the high school pole vaulters.

To add another decade they could have flown in Mike Sabatino, D-II NCAA Champ at UC Irvine with a best of at least 17'4" from the 70's.

Well, unless you find Charlie Eulo and Mike Wilchinski, you got nothing. Brother Marcel will catch poles.

That's Mark Wilchinsky… Charlie Eulo did come by ND many years ago.

"Don't let the body take over!" Joe Fogelstrum

There is a plaque with a dedication to Joe Fogelstrum next to the runways at Notre Dame now.
